PRESIDENT OBAMA WILL NO LONGER DEFEND DOMA IN THE COURTS

PRESIDENT CALLS DOMA UNCONSTIUTIONAL

On February 23, 2011, Attorney General Eric Holder in letter to House Speaker John A. Boehner stated that the Justice Department would no longer defend Section 3 of DOMA in the courts, as originally signed into law by President Clinton 15 years ago, declaring it to be unconstitutional.

Again under the cover of darkness, with congress in recess, President Obama chose to disregard the will of the majority of people who believe in traditional marriage.   "Thirty-three states have had this on the ballot and in all 33 states, including some of the most liberal states - California and Maine - voters have clearly said we affirm marriage as between a man and a woman.  In 2008 in vote margin of 62.1% Floridians voted to pass a Constitutional Amendment to protect marriage.

Today marks a day in history that will forever be ingrained in the minds of voters on both sides of the aisle who support the Federal Marriage Amendment (DOMA).  This decision will not go unnoticed by the voters in 2012.  The majority of individuals believe that marriage is the legal union of only one man and one woman as husband and wife and that it must be defended

For now the law remains on the books, while challenges work through the courts.  Meanwhile, we understand that Senator Diane Feinstein, D-Calif., a senior member of the Judiciary will be  introducing legislation to repeal the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

Again, we urge you to take a strong stand to protect the traditional institution of marriage.  Traditional Marriage has been the cornerstone of America and has withstood the test of time.

Sincerely,

CCSFLA Team

LIGHT BULB OF FREEDOM OF CHOICE ACT

U.S. Congressswoman Michele Bachmann

The Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act would repeal the incandescent light bulb phase-out, “unless the Comptroller General makes certain specific findings.”

Bachmann’s resolution demands that the comptroller general prove the following:

  • Consumers will see a net savings, in terms of dollars spent on monthly electric bills and expenses for new light fixtures, compared to dollars spent on incandescent lightbulbs.
  • The phase-out will reduce overall carbon dioxide emissions in the U.S. by 20 percent by 2025.
  • The phase-out will not pose any health risks, including risks associated with mercury containment in certain lightbulbs, to consumers or the general public.

Mexico City Policy and Assistance for Voluntary Population Planning
President Obama kept a low profile on Friday as he fulfilled a campaign promise by reversing President Bush’s policy barring U.S. aid to international organizations which provide abortions or advise women on how to get them.

President Obama lifts restrictions on abortion funding
WASHINGTON — President Obama on Friday quietly ended the Bush administration's ban on giving federal money to international groups that perform abortions or provide information on the option.

Mexico City Policy and Assistance for Voluntary Population Planning
The Secretary of State is authorized and directed to publish this memorandum in the Federal Register.
The Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 (22 U.S.C. 2151b(f)(1)), prohibits nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that receive Federal funds from using those funds "to pay for the performance of abortions as a method of family planning, or to motivate or coerce any person to practice abortions.

"This  bill will all allow for family planning, or to motivate or coerce any person to practice abortions."
