Seniors
Citizens and Gambling don't Mix. Due to inactivity,
idleness and lonliness, our
senior citizens are among the most vulnerable to
fall into the trap of
considering gambling as a pasttime that soon
turns into an
addiction taht they cannot shake.

Obamacare

Healthcare Case? Elena
Kagan Will Soon Review Obamacare
Will Obamacare meet its destiney in
the U.S. Supreme Court? On
Friday,
August 12th, in a 2-1 decision by Democrat Judge
Hall, the U.S.
Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit in Atlanta
ruled that the mandate
to carry health care insurance is
unconstitutional stating that
Congress overreached when it required
Americans to carry
insurance or pay a penalty.
It likely that the case will now move to the U.S.
Supreme Court to be heard when the next term starts
on October 3rd.

There is little time to waste. We must act
now to stop this Goliath that is coming
our way.
Sadly to say we have in our camp
Miami-Dade County legislators who favor
the bill.
I urge you to contact the following House
Representatives via phone and
email immediately and send a message that
gambling is bad news for
Florida.
These are the swing votes that can make
the difference in this
committee and set the course for the
gambling bill to sail through the
House.
Stop
it Here! Stop it Now!
FLORIDA
IS NOT FOR SALE AT ANY COST!
Gambling is a bad bet for Florida!
Florida
will soon be
faced with a
decision to
accept or reject
expanded
gambling in the
Sunshine
State. We
can do something
to stop it
here and
now.
The
State of Florida is getting ready to
make a bad bet if they approve the
expansion of casino gambling. The
short-term revenues hide a long-term
cost that will ultimately cost more than
the revenue it generates. According
to the Nevada
Council on Problem Gambling, 85 percent
of Americans have gambled at
least once. One percent of those are
addicted and 2 to 3 percent are
considered problem gamblers. Easy access
to gambling directly
correlates to the issue of problem and
addicted gamblers
Problem
or pathological/compulsive gamblers can
become criminals in an attempt
to cover their losses at the casinos.
This trend tends to start about
three years after the new casino has
been established. This is not
counting that the problem gambler will
suffer other losses along the
way, such as the loss of family, friends
and jobs. In Nevada as a
whole the chance of becoming a victim of
a crime is 1 in 27. Compare
that to Florida’s 1 in 144. Miami, where
the proposed casinos will be
built, has a 1 in 75 chance.
It is
Obvious that crime
will increase in the Miami area and will
result in additional costs to
investigate and prosecute these crimes
at the expense of taxpayers.
Gambling
is Risky Business
There are 256 stops on
each of the three reels, not just
the 20 visible symbols. This
means that the odds are 256 x 256 x
256, or about 1 in 17 million
chances.
Slot machines are
designed to produce "near
misses." If the player hits
the first two symbols, or a blank
space right next to the "winning"
symbol," he feels that he "just
missed," and is encouraged to try
again (and again and again).

economy--taking money from area

Update 12.26.2011
Palm
Beach County Commission Votes to add a
gambling referandum to the 2012
Election Ballot. By
a vote of 9-1, Palm Beach
County has elected to add a gambling
referandum to the election ballot
in 2012. Virginia Brooks, Chair of
Christian Coalition of Palm Beach
County spoke out in fervent opposition
to the decision explaining
that
slot machines are designed to take
people's money while making
players think that they are close to
winning said Virginia Brooks of
North Palm Beach. She said the
county shouldn't try to pad its
budget "on the backs of losers."
"This is not what we
want for our county," Brooks said.
The
Gambling Disease Compulsive
Gambling Causes Compulsive
gambling is a serious condition that
can destroy lives. For
Compulsive gamblers, betting isn't
as much about money as it is about
the excitement. The thrill gambling
means taking greater
risks and placing larger bets.
Compulsive gamblers are compelled to
keep playing to recoup their money,
a pattern that becomes
increasingly destructive.Casino

The Florida Sheriffs Association Oppose
Gambling in any Form
They believe that gambling will result in
criminal activity, and create
an opportunity of illegal operation of
illegal activity including money
laundering.
Gambling also results in socital problems
including gambling addiction, divorce, job
loss, and suicide.
Further gambling becomes a poor tax for the
citizens of Florida.

Miami Dade County has placed 2 Home Rule
Charter Amendments onthe January 31st
Presidential Election Preference Election
Ballot.
ALL
REGISTERED VOTERS county-wide can cast
ballots on these 2 issues)
Ballot
Question 1
Petition Process changes - Vote was - YES
in Favor
Shall the Charter be amended to increase
from 60 to 120 days the time
allowed to circulate initiatory petitions,
and to provide that
elections to amend the Charter, either
through initiatory petitions or
by Board action, be held in conjunction with
the next scheduled General
Election rather than within 60 to 120 days,
as currently required
The longer that you extend the peition
gathering process the more room
there is for fraud to occur. Secondly,
you do not want to wait
for a general election to oust an elected
official such as occurred
with former Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez.
Ballot
Question 2 The Vote
was NO - 54% Voted to keep current salary
structure. Shall the Charter be amended to
provide that, as of January 31, 2012, County
Commissioners shall:
Devote full-time service to the office
of County Commissioner and hold no other
employment
No longer receive the $6,000 annual
salary
established in 1957, but receive instead
the salary provided by state
formula, adjusted annually (currently
approximately $92,097)
Serve no more than two consecutive
four-year terms in office
Answer NO
Why should we give an increase to our
commissioners when Miami Dade has
a 10.0% unemployment, rate, higher than the
National Ememployment rate of
8.7%, not including those who have stopped
looking
for work.
Each of our Miami-Dade County Commissioners
already receives almost $1
million for their annual budgets which
they use as they please with few
restrictions and no questions asked — plus
annual retirement
contribution, unlimited free gas, an
$800 monthly car
allowance at a cost to
taxpayers of $1,119,261
each year They will get great
pensions and
benefits for the rest of their lives…all
paid by taxpayers.
Miami-Dade County commission has a bad habit
of mismanaging taxpayers
money and this is just one more
example. They want to
guarantee themselves 12 consecutive
years in service as commissioners. The
key
word here is “consecutive.”
It's no wonder, the voters have lost
confidence in their electorate
After all the
mismanagement and abuses Miami-Dade
Commissioners want to increase their
salaries and guarantee themselves 12
consecutive years as commissioners.
After the first 12 years, and a short
resting period not specified, these
commissioners can run for re-election to
secure themselves another 12 years in
power and perpetuate in office. We need
transparency and we are missing some of it
in this amendment.
Ask yourself, is this how Miami-Dade will
get out of the deep unemployment hole that
we are in?
